This, our first American Thanksgiving, was spent with Grant Alexander, where we enjoyed the company of his many friends, lovely family, and much much food.

We played an awesome (but complicated) game of pictionary, boys versus girls. I lost on "FACE", but won on "SCUBA". Jen won on "BLOWHOLE" "BALANCE" "SMOKING SECTION", and the clincher, "CHRISTMAS TREE". Can you figure out the clue in the picture?

Afterwards, during pumpkin pie, I took a look at some of Grant's artwork which was, unsurprisingly, amazing. What a great long weekend it's been! How was yours?

commute home

Jenny's visiting, and work is heavy, so there's not much spare time drawing going on; perhaps after thanksgiving?

ritual coffee

I had a bit of an epiphany about my drawing last night, and it was pretty shaking--I feel like it's the first time I've beeen able to really see my drawings in years. Things are gonna change here, that's for goddam sure, but these next few posts anyway, are pre-revelation; we might as well air the laundry.

Yesterday was pretty crazy; some sort of funny energy must have been buzzing about last night. On the train ride home I saw the most gigantic people EVER; the lady beside me in girth, and the fellow in front in bulk--he was a GIANT! Broad and wide and with enormous enormous hands! There was the most beautiful strawberry blond woman in a robin's egg blue trenchcoat, and later, out for coffee, I saw a head scarf that just blew me away--the forms and shapes and folds were so elegant... wow. I'm so unworthy to draw all this stuff--nowhere near good enough to capture so much of the beauty in life. Ah well; I'll try.

it's a work weekend--a little gouache, some page layouts, and plenty of coffee... I'm looking forward to it!

Tadahiro Uesugi

Very exciting! Tadahiro Uesugi came to Pixar today and did a demo. Accompanying were the ladies of the 3 Trees + 3 Flowers show in LA. For information on the show, visit Ronnie and Enrico's blogs.

tin cup serenade and the paper dolls

I went with Rick to Amnesia the other night, and there was all sorts of dark beer, old dresses, stompy swampy jazz, and hot swing dancing; Rick's friend Safa played the bass, his glasses sliding precariously down his nose..

Jockum Nordström

I hope that everyone had a great halloween--we had the big pixar show in the atrium today, and I was totally blown away by how creative and elaborate some of the costumes were. We had everything from Michael Jackson to Tetris to Peter Pan's shadow to the full cast of Ratatouille, including an enormous Remy--it was amazing.

In the spirit of the season, I thought I'd post some cards by Jockum Nordstrom. I recently bought them online from The Wexner Center, in good old Columbus Ohio. For more of his work check out the David Zwirner Gallery.
